#Unprofessional Review of "Rogue and Gambit #1 COMIC REVIEW"

First, I give voice to the Girl herself.

"I'm excited to pick up the Mr and Mrs X comics when the time comes, till then, I fulfilled my appetite with this! Marvel should definitely hire me as an editor."
~~copied from her Youtube description.

Hahahahah, ain't she honest ^^ Ok, time for my unprofessional review of the video itself.

***

Seeing her new video always gives me that warm pleasant sensation of being about to meet with an old friend. Thus, as Trisha unexpectedly uploaded her first true comic book review/commentary shaky cam style, I was both excited and worried, as I opened the link into her world.

(did she begin the video by unofficially hinting the possibility of reviewing the "Mr. and Mrs. X" once it s out? COUNT ME IN!)

I soon found this video an unexpected and fulfilling DISH. ^^ but lets go into details. Before that however... (and kinda more on this later on as well)

There was that one comment already that I found rather trolling, calling her new video review "D&C channel" style and being weirdly vague about it, which I found disturbing tbh. As if that guy was unsure himself what he wanted to convey, but I digress. Daring to notice how D&C channel's profile is completely different and the comparison made no sense~~ well, whatever.

Trisha's strongest forte are three things imho: her lively personality, her professional expertise (as she is a comic book artist herself, although aspiring at this point) and how honest she is about things. Basically she doesnt seem to give a damn about political correctness, and just goes about her activities with a "lets have fun" mindset. And that striking positivity is what drew me in at one point. And her review is just that, and more. The format suits her well enough for me to consider a few things, but more on that later on.

Dannphan29 is honest. Trisha's focus is on the aspects she herself finds important, which is WHAT A DAMN REVIEW IS and (HONESTLY) I am glad she does not twist her narrative to applease a crowd. That makes her a natural at reviewing stuff she knows how to handle in my opinion. An opposite approach is way too common on Youtube nowadays, with people afraid to voice their opinion and it kills the entire point of this shiet. SO it is refreshing to see how Trisha just says what she thinks. Her natural professionalism is makes me wanna devour more of this kinda content from Dannphan29 from now on. (def not D&C)

[ We r talking with the guy from the comment in question, he responded. He said Trisha offended the creators. By reviewing their shiet. Whoa~ some people r just... ]

I approve of this video, over all. She focuses on artistic and character aspects of the work, criticising the cover and later apploading the improvement in character designs inside the comic book itself. She goes around it pointing out what she finds weird or even disturbing at time.

As I said at the beginning, the format suits her well and play nicely with her natural abilities and preference towards this type of dynamic narration. There is one thing however I need to comment on, a thing unrelated from Trisha herself in a way.

There is that one romantic scene. There are those woman characters, staring at the two main lovers. As I commented on that under her video already, I dare to just copy&paste.

"The girls in that romantic scene u commented on [...] well, they r a typical community gathered around shipping [fictional] characters lol. every girl there represents an archetype lmao. That kinda stuff I find rather unpleasant and lazy writing and would make me cringe af while reading, due to how it flattens the characters and their roles in the overall narrative and make them role-specific and truly creepy. It forces a naturally feeling character in to an unnatural craze. Not for me. Fanservice. Yuck."
~me (the scene from 4:55)

And obviously~ as she goes on criticising subjectively what she is seeing (basically, reviewing stuff) there are "wise" individuals trying to gain spotlight under her.

SIDEQUEST ] Well, this is the Internet open waters so ofc some guys will call Trisha's work "D&C channel" which I find completely unwarranted and honestly just a creepy approach to attention seeking by making urself sound vaguely important. I call this kinda comments Complainers and they seem to exist two main types of those. Basically, complainers will post random vague shit making authors minds to go overdrive n overthink whatever aspect of their work they personally are unsure about and find most fear inducing. Complainers words will seep into their supconscious tearing apart at their confidence and slowly but surely eating away at the fun. Which means that the complainer is two kind. One is a conscious troll who just love pulling ppl's legs. The other is just an idiot who is unable to express himself properly, who disliked whatever puts him beyomd the cage of his comfort zone. Or so it seems to me at leastm dont wanna offend anyone. I too am cruelly honest at times~~

( ^^ I long decided to live my life with complete n utter honesty and respect for myself and others, coz this shiet is random, circumstantial at best and not permanent anyway. So I approve of Trisha's honesty )

Going back on track now, the above shiet just pisses me off greatly. Ok, now I shall comment on the video itself piece by piece. First, the narration. Trisha seems to have a knack to narrating her stuff as she goes, I rarely feel bored. Her positivity surely is addictive and spreads around like wildfire. She neatly introduces the subject and tells us how she got this rather old comic book "because I wanted it", which is always a good sign imho. Then, she starts describing the reason she almost discarded the idea: the cover art. (0:60)

And I happen to agree with her standpoint on this one. I dont know what is the point of having different artists do the comic and the cover to it (cant prove this but they look astoundingly different!), but the cover art is just bad. If judged by the cover, as we humans have in nature, the comic pulls itself a leg. Bad PR, indeed. "The Gambit looks fine" she says tho, however here I disagree completely. Trisha then assumes to professionally evaluate the cover (and gosh I love her humor!) and shows herself as a competent reviewer. Further putting the trolls' ranting into the complete bullcrap category.

"If only Rogue looked good." (1:59) "But that s the thing about the cover. It s just the cover. The art inside the comic actually looks really REALLY good."

I wont go on to summarize the video for u guys, check for urselves. Worth it.

[ TECHNICALS ] The camera work. Although shaky, the camera is sufficiently focused, her hand is steady (drawing a lot helps in that department lmao) and the room is sufficiently lit. She uses the lens to follow the narrative by pointing with the camera as if that was her finger, showing exactly what she is focusing on - which may be annoying to some, some may find it crappy editing. Indeed, that was a risky decision, but definitely well executed one. I find it the best possible choice to dynamize the review of a fkin comic book.

She moves around a lot and makes sure we r not watching a cute girl sitting behind a table or just a comic book reviewed by being put on a while sterile table with a steady hand (yuck) slowly showing us the pages in question under the perfect lightning condition, with a commentary added as a forethought. She is a lively girl after all, and that is her Youtube channel. Let Trisha be Trisha, her personality is the reason fanbase gathered around her in the first place. ( she is a hyperactive ninja ^^ )

Personally, I would die of boredom. Therefore, what she has done is the right way to approach the viewer. But needs a serious polish. #opinions

Voice work. Dannphan29 is also a singer and song writer. Trisha therefore has a strong, vibrant voice that is extremely pleasant to the ear (in my opinion), and she modulates it really well depending on the context within her narration, aiding her words with cute and on point acting. A talent if I ever saw one. I have several issues with how she handles her performance on the technical level, however. First of foremost, the girl has a POOR MIC making her sounds squeaky at highest notes, as her scale and the range she uses to express herself in this video alone is handled really~ badly. Second, Trisha speaks too fast and is too close to the mic. That doesn’t help. It would be equally helpful if she worked more according to a vague script as that would add the much needed layer of structure to her performance. Structure she could later capitalize on as her forte.

Thematics. She points out illogicalities in character writing and focuses mainly on character interactions. So the two things I find to be the forte of her previous comic works (Street Levelers mainly, tho far from perfect; her new project, "Hollow Barrage" [ https://twitter.com/trishacuffari/status/1016813314016448513 ]). That is not the only thing she points out as she goes on commenting on the narration of this comic piece.

"As a whaman I feel offended" (7:34)

She states it clearly pointing out how the side girls in this comic hardly resemble their movie counterparts at times. I agree that they seem treated fanservice-y. Appear flattened compared to the  movie material. That is probably because the comic book IS aimed at the fans of the original material and is supp to provide more casual outlook at the characters, but whoever written those lines of dialogue and interactions should rethink their aesthetics imho.

I am hardly a SJW but so ain’t Trisha, in my opinion. Just, such obvious plastic doll treatment is indeed offensive towards the fans of the original material as those are not the characters and interactions they grew to love. How ironic. It seems so blatantly aimed at the shippment community and as a flat eye candy at times, I never get to understand why people fall for this shiet so badly, or why it sells. Because if it hadn't boosted sales, it wouldn’t be implemented fkin everywhere nowadays. Or maybe the publishers are brain dead, donno. (No offense, not talking about anyone specific. I think, from what saw, the comic book overall is pretty legit)

Ok, enough of my ranting and pondering over pointless stuff that doesnt even affect the overal quality of a comic book, GO WATCH THE VIDEO ALREADY <3

Last word as always to the Girl herself:

"THIS IS GOOD ART." (8:00)
